Given an upredictable mountain environment there are two things that always make sense regardless of whether you hike alone or guided:
1) Record the track on your smartphone from the start so you could trace it back if things go south.
2) Carry an extra powerbank/cable on you all the time. Batteries do not last long when it is freezing.
We encourage every mountaineer to download local gps tracks (link below). Your fancy smartphone can actually save your life. Popular trails available on apps such as maps.me, OsmAnd, Strava, etc.
3-days off-road tour to Charyn/Kolsai/Kayindy
Had tons of fun ~ Azamat and Sergey are the best guides. Great hikes through beautiful canyons, lakes, and waterfalls. Adventurous (but safe) driving through the mud, snow, and rocky roads.
They planned very well and packed our itinerary so we saw a huge variety of sights in our 3 days. Azamat was very communicative over facebook in answering our questions before the trip. Also nice Kazakh/Russian soundtrack in the car for our trip :)
The hiking was very beautiful and the guides customized the level of activity to fit our group. Convenient pickup in Almaty too, and it was great to get out of the city and see some nature and rural life. Would highly recommend that visitors to Almaty get out of the city and travel into rural Kazakhstan with these guys!
I had a 4 day trip booked with another company, and they cancelled my trip 2 days before I was to fly to Kazakhstan from the USA. At the last minute I was forced to find an alternative. I came across Almaty hiking from a google search and sent an email. Aza quickly got back to me and was somehow able to set me up with nearly the same trip with the same dates, only a week away! Without me asking, Aza made the booking very comfortable and I never worried about getting scammed (which is a real concern that Americans have). Aza himself was our guide. He took us around the Golden ring of Zhetysu. I’m happy I booked a guide for many reasons. I speak no Russian, and Aza spoke perfect English, having studied for his masters degree in Europe. Also there are very few signs for anything in this area, so there is no way I’d ever find anything. Much of the driving was on unpaved trails. At each destination, Aza knew the best location for the best viewpoints and somehow found the best campsites too. While camping he made great simple meals for us. Overall I’m very satisfied and would recommend this company to anyone. Lastly, after spending many hours in a car with Aza I was able to learn much about Kazakhstan that I was curious about. I have an interest in the Soviet era and sociology. I learned so much. I’m looking forward to another trip in the future.

Hi, this is Laurent, French 50 y/o professor. I was on a business trip to Almaty apr. 2018 and have contacted Asamat and Sergey with objective to climb 4000 peaks. I’ve truly appreciated their kindness and professionalism. We did the Big Almaty Peak (3700 masl) one day and Tourist peak (3960 masl) the day after. It has been a great moment. The team knows very well the region and is very cautious (it was high avalanche season). I strongly recommend their services.

Hiking to T1 area and car trip to the Big Almaty lake
I had such an amazing experience being in town for just a few days. Azamat was so accommodating and put together a perfect 1 day hike. Even when the weather came in he made it even more fun knowing that I liked a challenge. He had all the right gear to lend me and even met me the day before to go over what we needed. Since I enjoyed myself so much, we did another half day hike. I highly recommend him for his knowledge and skills and of course English skills. Can’t wait to do it again.
2-days hardcore trekking to T1 area.
Great hike with Aza! I enjoyed the experience very much. The views are amazing!
3-days off-road tour to Charyn/Kolsai/Kayindy
Wonderful experience! Me and my 2 girl friends went on a 3 day nature tour to see the canyons, lakes, and waterfalls in Kazakhstan in late March. We all enjoyed staying at a guesthouse in one of the villages. These guys were very flexible, patient, and gave great suggestions when weather was not permitting to original plans. As a group of females, we felt we were in safe, trustworthy, and capable hands. They really want to show the beauty that is Kazakhstan!
Relaxed photo-walk to Serkebay mountain.
Thank you for the nice hiking to Serkebay peak! Beautiful views thanks to the good weather! An experience to repeat soon!
Great company with hikes tailored to your ability level. I did three hikes with them this month and all were fantastic. The best thing is that they are really off track hikes – you literally don’t see anybody else.
Specialisation: advanced english-speaking mountain guide, local authentic food, trail-running junkie.
I am fluent in English and love mountains. So I woke up one morning and decided to do guiding for english-speaking public.
Got extensive knowledge of mountains around the region, some emergency situations skills (First aid sertificate from Red Crescent of Kazakhstan).
Specialisation: 4wd tours, extreme mountaineering, freeride, off-piste, ski touring.
I’m a professional mountain guide, experienced off-road driver, extreme backcountry snowboard enthusiast and the most reliable person ever met (as Aza says).
My english is not as good as Aza’s but i know enough. “We are almost there” usually covers most of the questions.
